Paul Graham of Y Combinator is sharing some interesting data in his Twitter feed this morning, breaking down the number of startups who have gone through the Y Combinator program and sold or are valued at more than $40 Million by the year they were funded (assuming this means funded by YC):
YC cos valued or sold for over $40m by year funded: 1 2005 4 2006 4 2007 3 2008 6 2009 6 2010 7 2011 9 2012 2 2013

Which he followed up with a second tweet, breaking out the percentage of companies who have reached this milestone by funding year:
Percent: 12 2005 21 2006 13 2007 7 2008 14 2009 10 2010 6 2011 6 2012 2 2013 (Takes a few years to reach $40m.)

Correction: our original headline said these companies were sold for $40 Million or more, but Paul Graham’s tweet actually says “sold or valued at”. We have updated the headline and graphs accordingly.
